Vertigo combines the principles of Marble Madness with the Monkey Ball series in a future setting. Players must navigate a gleaming ball known as a zorb through high-tech settings at breakneck speed. Because the tracks are tiny and possible to go off at any point, precision steering is required. Games can be played in arcade style with forking paths or in career mode with additional tracks gradually unlocked. Courses are time-limited and take place in a variety of settings. Checkpoints allow the player to respawn at specific points in the game. Power-ups can be acquired while playing to access air brakes and other benefits. The color of the orbs can be entirely modified. Time trial, three multiplayer modes, and a bowling mini-game are among the different game options. In some game types, balls can be armed with rockets and missiles, which deform the orb when hit.
