The events of “Hell’s Highway,” the third book in the Brother in Arms series, occur about four months after “Operation Overlord.”

When “Operation Market Garden” begins, the player assumes control of Staff Sergeant Matthew Baker and his teams as they participate in the mission. On September 17, 1944, three airborne divisions were dropped into the Netherlands behind enemy lines to secure several bridges. The 101st Airborne Division, which belonged to Matt Baker, was one of the airborne divisions thrown into the Netherlands behind enemy lines. The game’s narrative follows him and his unit as they attack and secure Eindhoven and their following defense of the surrounding area against German counterattacks.

As in the previous games, the player navigates his squad across the battlefield from cover to cover, giving them commands to suppress the enemy and preparing a flank attack to take out the opposing position while always moving forward to the next objective. This may be done from a first-person perspective or via a tactical map. But to make things a little more interesting, there isn’t just an attack team waiting to be managed. At various points throughout the game, the player will be granted access to more specialized machine guns or bazooka teams. Mainly the latter is quite helpful at this time because the cover can be eliminated with sufficient firing power. In other missions, the player is in charge of a tank or must achieve the objective alone without assistance.

The player can now perform a “Dig in” move at each cover, just like in Rainbow Six: Vegas. This will cause the game to convert to a third-person view, and as long as the body isn’t destroyed, the player’s character will be immune to any attacks from the opposing team. From here, he can either fire unthinkingly or peer beyond the cover to get the kill with the new and enhanced combat system, which no longer relies as much on flanking the adversary because every area of a visible enemy can now be struck. And if the player pulls off an exceptionally great shot, the game will switch to a slow-motion action cam and depict the hit in gruesome detail. For example, if the player takes a headshot from a considerable distance. The new healthcare system is yet another alteration. The characters no longer have a set amount of health;  if they are not attacked, their health will automatically regenerate.

The game also has a team-based multiplayer option accommodating up to 20 players. In this mode, the teams compete against one another to win rounds by capturing flag points, defending these locations, or eliminating the opposing team.
