The action video game Prototype 2, the sequel to the game Prototype, takes place in a universe accessible to the player’s exploration. Alex Mercer, the protagonist of the first game, was assumed to be dead after successfully eradicating the Blacklight virus aftergame’s conclusion. The infection had infected him and given him unusual powers. Nonetheless, fourteen months later, a second outbreak struck the city of New York. The city is given its new name, New York Zero, after the third epidemic in its history. James Heller, a soldier serving in Iraq who is contacted by his wife Colette by phone throughout this game, is the game’s main character. As more information about the pandemic becomes available, she is concerned for her well-being and their daughter Amaya’s. Once again, mutated people and monsters may be found roaming the streets, and the group known as Blackwatch has reappeared to end the outbreak forcefully. After returning home, Heller learns that both of them have passed away, and he decides to enlist in the military once more to combat what is now known as the Mercer virus. This is because Alex Mercer originally reappears as a villain in this game. However, not long after that, Heller too becomes infected with a strain of the virus and has the same abilities as Mercer. Gentek hauls him in for testing. Still, he manages to escape and runs to Mercer, who confesses to him that Blackwatch and Gentek are responsible for the virus. After the prologue, the central portion of the game begins when Heller decides to go after Gentek while maintaining communication with a priest named Guerra.

The action of the game takes place in New York Zero, which has been divided into three different zones based on the level of infection: red, yellow, and green. This indicates that there are also locations where Heller is permitted to freely move about among regular civilians so long as he does not demonstrate his abilities. There is a primary narrative with tasks to complete, but there is also a significant degree of leeway regarding exploration. He will eventually be able to hack into the military grid known as Blacknet, which contains all of the military’s operations. Instead of being instructed to do quests, he can select his objectives for the organization or the pursuit.

Heller possesses superhuman abilities, just like in the first game, enabling him to run up the sides of buildings, make enormous leaps, and land without incurring any damage from the fall. He can perform various fighting moves with his fists and claws, and he can lift objects and figures to throw them at his foes. In addition, he can take a cannon off a tank, for example, and use it as a weapon. Driving a tank is also an option. The act of grabbing an opponent now kicks off a brief sequence of battle, which can be employed for intimidating the target and can optionally be followed by a throw or the consumption of a character. It is just as simple for him to infect personalities with the virus to turn them into biological bombs. The power to shapeshift has been with him from the very first game, allowing him to assume another person’s identity while retaining their memories. When this is accomplished without drawing attention to himself, he can, his pursuers, briefly take the position of a soldier and make museums or utilize it as a cover for infiltration. Heller has access to new evading moves, a healing and endurance-regaining ability over time, and a sonar sense that spotlights buildings and people to make it simpler to track them down. A top-down map provides another perspective on the surroundings that can be utilized. Heller’s capabilities are expanded upon and refined throughout the game using various upgrades, giving him additional skills. They can be broken down into these four categories: powers, skills, abilities, and mutations.

Additionally, they have an overall evolution level that is determined by their amount of experience. Tendrils grow from Heller’s arm and can be employed for various purposes. These tendrils also give Heller access to an altogether new set of powers.
