Based on the animated television series of the same name, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the adventures of a group of kids who live in an Asian-inspired fantasy world where nations are divided into four classical elements: air, water, earth, and fire. Benders are people who can control that one element within each country. The Avatar is a person who has control over all four parts and is tasked with keeping the four nations at peace. However, the Avatar had vanished 100 years before, allowing the Fire Nation to launch a global conquest campaign. The new Avatar, Aang (originally an Airbender, hence the series title), is discovered as the series begins. He must now travel the world, learning to bend all four elements and fight the Fire Nation alongside his friends Katara (a Waterbender of the Water Tribe) and Sokka (her older brother). The player can select one of four characters in the game: Aang, Katara, Sokka, or Haru (an Earthbender). Each character has a distinct fighting style and set of abilities, and new abilities can be acquired as they gain experience by defeating enemies. Armor, chi, accessories, and healing potions can also help the player. The gameplay is viewed top-down in an action/adventure game. The player battles enemies and searches for specific items to complete the quests to progress further into the game. The story is divided into chapters, and players cannot return to previous areas. The game follows Aang and his friends as they investigate the disappearance of a young Waterbender and find themselves pursuing an inventor named Lian the Maker, who has been forced to create dangerous machines for the Fire Nation. The characters face Fire Nation soldiers, strange animals, and various devices as they travel between the Water Tribe and the Earth Kingdom. Other Avatar characters make brief appearances in the game, including Prince Zuko, who appears only during cut scenes.
