Tsukasa is a fiercely independent young man who lost his parents at a young age and now works at a Chinese restaurant to make ends meet. Tsukasa is hesitant to create interpersonal bonds for fear of them being shattered. Yet, he is reluctant to forsake the illegal immigrant girl he finds collapsed in the alley outside his job one day. Faced with her complete helplessness, he takes her in, an encounter that opens the door to a new existence – one in which he meets the difficulty and wonder of no longer being alone. Tsukasa quickly finds himself at the unintentional crossroads of many more lives, collecting a swarm of misfits and social outcasts around him extending beyond his modest flat’s bounds. They seek refuge in an abandoned house, where, despite Tsukasa’s reservations, a partnership is formed: the “family project,” a coalition of mutual convenience and practical support that, despite suspicion and antagonism among its members, soon begins to signify much more.
