The purpose of the game is to direct one or more mice (“ChuChus”) across a board toward one or more goals while avoiding cats (“KapuKapus”) that wander the board. The mice and cats travel in predictable patterns, such as turning right when they hit a wall entirely, following corners, or turning around when they reach a dead end. The multiplayer version of ChuChu Rocket! involves up to four players simultaneously placing arrows on the level, attempting to route mice into their rockets and cats into other players’ rockets (each cat that reaches a rocket destroys a percentage of the mice within). Each player can only have three arrows on the screen at once and cannot place them on the arrows of other players or their own. Arrows would vanish over time or be eliminated by a player laying his fourth arrow (which would delete the first arrow, leaving three). Although a basic premise, the unrelenting pace of the mice and four players competing for them rapidly turns this into a frenzy.
