The Professor shows Spyro and Sparx his two new creations in his lab. The first is a peephole gadget that allows them to spy on Ripto. Butler, a giant mechanical bear built to assist the Professor in his lab, is then displayed. Butler, unfortunately, malfunctions, and the Professor neglects to supply it with an “off” switch. Spyro shorts Butler out by enticing him inside a power generator, and the peephole machine fails, causing the hole in the fabric of space to widen rapidly. A scared Professor informs Spyro about “Hearts” – mystical artifacts with incredibly unusual powers that are the only way to manage the crisis. The Professor is ready to give him a warp gadget that would allow him to go to all of the other lands when Ripto emerges through the hole and takes the device for himself, giving him the advantage of being able to conquer the surrounding territories quickly. Ripto transports Spyro, Sparx, and Butler to the Dragon Shores. Spyro returns to the Professor’s Lab and travels through the vortex of the peephole to Rypto’s Chateau, where he discovers Ripto attempting to drop the Professor into a pit of lava but engages in a fight with Spyro. Ripto catches him and Sparx after they are vanquished. Butler returns, and the Professor instructs him to capture Ripto. Ripto, now unconscious, gives over the remaining heart, and the Professor permanently closes the breach in space. RPG components, such as quests, mini-quests, and a new inventory system, provide more complexity than previous Spyro titles, giving additional ways to enjoy the Dragon Realms and creating an entirely new Spyro experience.
