The game starts with the seer, Tarkeen, recounting the history of the Lost Lands, which tyrannical warlords had battled over for many years before the game’s events. Tal’Set engages in combat with his adversary, Captain Bruckner, on Earth during the Old West and is successful in amputating his opponent’s arm; however, they are both drawn into a wormhole at the same time. Tal’Set is in a critical condition, and the inhabitants of the River Village, who discovered him, summon Tarkeen in the hopes that he might save him. After that, Tarkeen gives them the order to bring Tal’Set to him. He is dispatched into the forest to eliminate hostile groups, including lizard-like foes called the Sleg, located near the Village. To go to the seer, Tal’Set makes contact with Genn, a pilot from the Village. Genn will serve as Tal’Set’s guide. Along the way, he makes use of the Pterosaur to drive the Sleg out of the forest and destroy the aircraft that they were traveling in.
