It has been approximately twelve years since the destruction of Kilrah, the homeworld of the Kilrathi. In gradually demobilizing and reforming its military capabilities, the Terran Confederation has landed on a new strategy. This policy included the construction of multiple Midway-class megacarriers, which was the idea of Navy Commodore Christopher Blair. These modern carriers are longer than a kilometer and contain all of the gear and armament necessary for a carrier combat group from the period of the Kilrathi War. Blair is now going along for the journey on the first one, the Midway herself, as she goes through her shakedown voyage. However, before this happens, the player watches a computer-generated image (CGI) film depicting a strange rip in space that occurs in the Kilrah system and shows the first of the Nephilim invaders. The prophecy that gives the game its name foretells the arrival of these extraterrestrial invaders, who are said to arrive only when “one who has the heart of a Kilrathi but who is not Kilrathi-born” triumphs over the felinoid warrior species.
