After Burner: Black Falcon is the fourth installment in the After Burner series, released nearly fifteen years after the previous installment. It is an action-based flying game, similar to the previous ones, shown from a third-person perspective. The fast pace, taking on multiple enemies simultaneously, combining hit-scan and lock-on weapons, and evasive maneuvers via rolls are all standard features. There are 24 levels in the game. Players can select one of three pilots (Billy Blaze, Harrison Duke, or Tomiko Rossellini) to pursue the terrorist cell Black Falcon, which has stolen thirteen prototype planes. Each pilot introduces new plot twists, and there are nineteen different planes to fly (primarily jets). They can be outfitted with weapons and items, as well as painted. The game occurs in various locations worldwide, and the pilots frequently perform short sequences while flying. Numerous objects in the environment must be avoided or destroyed. Missions have main objectives and side missions that earn more money for upgrades. As is customary, giant bosses wield weapons such as EMP. Multiplayer is supported for eight players in competitive and cooperative modes.
