Hudson’s bomb-blasting action series has been operating for a very long time, and Bakuf Sentai Bombermen is only one of the many titles in the series. It reimagines Bomberman as a squad of brightly colorful Power Rangers–style sentai superheroes who use bombs to battle crime, in contrast to Bomberman: Act Zero’s grimy and dark redesign of the franchise. Bomberman: Super Sentai takes the opposite approach. The classic 8-bit Bomberman also appears, this time in glorious pixelated 3D. The gameplay of this game is very similar to that of other Bomberman games. Players must drop bombs to trap and destroy foes, blow up crates to obtain power-up items, avoid the many hazards that appear in each level, and do their best to avoid being blown up themselves. In the story mode, each member of the Bomberman team will initially go through multiple Classic levels as their blocky retro version to restore their powers. After this, they will arrange more dangerous stages in their sentai hero form. In the Arrange game types, each Bomber has unique skills. The Pink Bomber, for instance, can jump over obstacles like blocks and other dangers if the time is just right. The Challenge mode is the game’s second single-player option. In this mode, you will compete against the clock to rack up as many points as possible through various levels while adhering to a time constraint. There is also a wifi multiplayer mode that supports up to five people, and there are even minigames that can be played by linking with XI Coliseum and I.Q Mania. Demo versions of both of these games are also included in this package.
