Gretzky NHL 06

Gretzky NHL 06 is a hockey game promoted by great player Wayne Gretzky for the PSP. This edition, released barely six months after the last PSP game, includes updated lineups and some features copied from the PS2 version, but it also has its own set of modes. Single-player and season modes are returning. The new chemistry function is carried over from the PS2, influencing players’ numbers based on how well they interact with one another. The PS2 also has the “Wayne vs Wayne” game, in which two battling teams build up their “99 meters.” When the squad is complete, The Great One himself joins as an extra player for a brief period. This mode is also playable in the PSP-exclusive NHL Showdown mode, which is a ladder versus all NHL teams, with the conclusion against a team of five Gretzkys. “3 on 3 Countdown” is another special mode. It’s an arcade mode with only three players per team on the field, no standard rules, and the victor is the team that hits a predetermined score first. Online multiplayer, both ad hoc and via infrastructure, is also back, as are the Gretzky Challenges: by accumulating points through in-game achievements, players can unlock benefits such as alternate and vintage uniforms and additional gameplay elements and modes. Gretzky 06, unlike the previous PSP game, has color and play-by-play commentary by Mike Emrick and Darren Pang.
