Groovin’ Blocks is a falling block puzzle game featuring gameplay similar to Columns and Lumines. Players must clear lines of three or more blocks of the same color, and similar to Columns, players can cycle through the falling lines of blocks, with nearby blocks of the same color disappearing with the matched lines. Furthermore, extra points can be earned by bringing falling blocks down to the downbeats (dubbed “Superbeats”) of the game’s electronic music, which adds to a score multiplier. Players acquire stars for unlocking new songs and power-ups by setting high scores. In contrast to typical puzzle games, which can be played indefinitely, each stage in Groovin’ Blocks lasts for the duration of the song if the player has not yet failed the scene by filling their play area with blocks.
