Lustrous Berge refers to the side of Berge exposed to constant light. Dark Berge is the name given to the other half, always shrouded in darkness. The two halves are separated by a miasma-filled chasm known as the Black Precipice, which has been in place for so long that most people on the planet are unaware that the other half exists… And now, events threaten both halves of the globe. Fate has selected a champion from each half, and the player must now decide which winner to play as. The stage has been prepared. Is it going to be the best or worst of times? Players in Hexyz Force select one of two main characters: young priestess Cecilia “Ceci” Armaclite or veteran knight Levant von Schweitzer. Because both paths tell different story parts, the game functions as two RPGs. Combat begins on the field map, but as with another Atlus PSP title, battles can be avoided by dodging enemies on the field. When you enter combat, the game transforms into a standard turn-based RPG with a rock-paper-scissors elemental system called the Divine Aspects. Each weapon is associated with an element, and if the attacks follow the correct pattern, a damage gauge will form, multiplying the damage once the chain breaks. The indicator is accessible to both the enemy and the player, allowing the enemy to inflict massive damage on the player. Weapons are destructible, as they are in most Sting RPGs. In addition, the game has a gun crafting and fusion system that replaces shops. Players obtain components for crafting items through battle or collecting them from Harvest Points worldwide.
