The Hot Shots Golf series for the PSP now has Wi-Fi multiplayer compatibility thanks to Open Tee. Like the others in the series, this game displays realistic golf courses with animated characters rather than real-life counterparts. You can win items for your character to wear, accessory pieces to improve your golf skill, new golf clubs, and balls, and additional playable characters in single-player mode. Single play modes include stroke play, which allows you to play a free round of golf by yourself; three different challenge modes (stroke – play against nineteen computer characters in a tournament; match – a one-on-one game against a computer character with the first player to go ahead by three holes winning automatically unlocking items for your character; and VS – play against a computer character like in match play but instead of getting items you unlock the character you are playing as). A training mode also allows you to practice a single hole or course under specific conditions such as wind direction, weather, etc. You can rise in rank by winning tournaments when playing in single-player mode. As you progress through the stages, you will gain access to new courses and caddies. Match play consists of one-on-one play from 3 to 18 holes; tournament consists of a stroke-style game with up to 8 players on 9 to 18 holes; and Putting Challenge consists of a one-on-one match in which you compete for Putt Points by sinking your ball in a single putt on a green with several holes; the farther the spot, the more Putt Points you receive. Putting Challenge also has a single-player mode. Special restrictions can be applied in multiplayer modes, such as 2 points added to sand traps, no backspin, XL Cup (a massive cup is used), Crazy Gauge (the cursor on the power gauge for hitting the ball hops around), and so on. When it’s your turn, tease your opponent with the direction or other buttons. The taunts differ according to the character. Selecting Data from the main menu reveals your single-player golf records, history (past accomplishments – medals, etc.), and films of shots to be saved for later viewing. By selecting Options from the main menu, you can further personalize the game by changing camera angles, accessible mode, and viewing stored videos.
