What happened after the first Metal Gear Ac!d is a bit of a mystery, as Snake suffers from amnesia from the start of the game. He doesn’t know much about his past, but he and his newly acquired companions are well aware of his abilities. Returning to the United States after a successful mission, his only hope is that he will begin to remember his past as he steps onto familiar ground. Instead of giving him time to do so, an FBI agent arrests him and his friends, leaving him with only one option to save his friends: assist the agent with his mission. Snake agrees hesitantly but with little else to think about until he can connect some dots. Unlike the previous game, this one employs a 3D cell-shading technique, which makes the game less realistic but more colorful, with over 500 cards at your disposal. The gameplay is the same as the original, but with some improvements like undoing your moves to a certain extent, moving in real-time, and not losing moves when opening doors or crouching. A new type of card activates itself when you use other cards, usually enhancing your action in some way. To play the game in 3D, the Metal Gear Ac!d 2 package includes a Solid Eye, a special type of 3D glasses (a cardboard box that slides over the PSP, not the blue-purple plastic but with lenses). You can also use it to watch Snake Eater and other movies as you unlock them in the game, giving you the impression of being in 3D space.
