One of the first Sony MLB licensed games for the PSP, it covers all of the major league teams at the time and the top players of the time, with fresh new PSP animations. The game can be thought of as a scaled-down version of MLB 2006. It includes the standard game modes, Quick Game, Season Mode, and a Multiplayer mode in which two players compete against each other utilizing the Ad Hoc feature. Some of the new gameplay concepts for the game include Release Point Pitching with a Confidence Meter, which determines the pitcher’s success rate based on numbers and skill. The more successful pitches made within a specific zone, the easier the angles get; missing them results in wild pitches or a line drive right to the hitter. Another game is the Playmaker Fielding Marker. Unlike other games, it uses the player’s numbers to evaluate whether routine plays like pop-ups are simple by giving the player plenty of chance by indicating the landing spot faster and covering a larger area. Less skilled players would receive less notice and a smaller catching radius, making even the most basic plays more difficult. Branch Point Technology offered a continuous flow of transition for the game, allowing the player to plan out the path of a throw while still catching it. It was also used for baserunning, giving it a smoother feel to running and sliding.
