Sony’s baseball franchise returns for 2007 with updated rosters and classic features such as season mode, managerial mode, and the traditional career mode, as well as some new ones. The Road to the Show, a fresh take on the career mode that expands on last year’s version, is one of the new features. Rather than playing every team member, the game focuses on the player alone. It will speed up decisions related to the player (for example, fielding a ball hit towards your player or batting), but it will also give you goals to complete (i.e., knocking in a run, getting on base, or trying for a double play while fielding). Success in these goals will help you establish your place with the manager and team, giving you a better chance of making it to the big leagues. It also has Adaptive Pitching Intelligence, where the game learns more from your at-bats or pitches but also has your catchers help you out more by picking signals out rather than randomly selecting angles. Another factor is umpire personality, which determines whether the strike zone is smaller or larger depending on who is calling the game. The New Pitch Command System (PCS) provides a comprehensive pitch selection strategy. A pitcher’s “pitch comfort” will be predetermined based on a best-to-worst pitch scenario, allowing you to decide whether to stick with what is working or begin a new pitching regiment. The PS2 and PS3 versions include online league play and real-time MLB scores and news, while the PSP version allows you to play against others via Wi-Fi. It has an extensive MLB license, with most of the players with a few exceptions, and also have Rex Hudler, Matt Vasgersian, and Dave Campbell as color commentators, providing realistic coverage, almost giving it a TV feel along with realistic graphics, giving the players and action a very natural feel, such as a pitcher’s let down after giving up a big home run or a team rushing the field to celebrate after hitting a home run, winning the game.
