NBA Ballers: Rebound is a PSP version of the NBA Ballers franchise featuring PSP-specific features such as using the D-pad for movement rather than the console versions’ analog control. Players can also play as current NBA stars like Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant on street courts in arcade-style action. Players can compete in a variety of modes, including TV Tournaments and a “story mode” called Rags to Riches, in which they can create their own “baller” and bring him up through the ranks, defeating top players in the game and gaining notoriety, beginning with friendly encounters on local street courts and progressing to taking on the big boys in televised events. Players who win these matches will earn money that they may spend to buy jewelry (also known as “bling”) and upgrade their “crib” with more items as the game progresses. The gameplay resembles NBA Jam, with arcade-style one-on-one action featuring outrageous moves such as half-court dunks and intricate alley-oops. Stringing these moves together will fill a meter known as the “House Meter,” allowing the player to use a special alley-oop known as the “juice house,” which will shatter the backboard and smash the basket, giving the player an automatic win regardless of the game’s score. Players can also compete against one another in one-on-one matches using Ad-Hoc, using the players’ constructed “ballers” or unlocked professional players, and playing in “cribs” designed by the players in the game.
