Pac-Man: Championship Edition is a sequel made in the style of the original classic by the same developer, Tru Iwatani. You are again Pac-Man, and you are in a maze filled with dots, power pellets, and hosts. The goal is to eat the dots while avoiding the ghosts unless you eat a power pellet, which allows you to devour the spirits for a few seconds. What’s new here are the several mazes and modes. Because this was created from the ground up as a console game, some arcade traditions have been lost. The goal is no longer to survive/get a high score without losing any quarters but to earn a high score in a given time. You still have limited lives, so your time will finish sooner if you lose them all. Championship Edition does not have individual levels, unlike the original or its successor. When you finish one side of the maze, a fruit appears on the other. Eating the fruit regenerates the empty half with new walls, dots, power pellets, and so on, speeding up the game. The style is bright neon, reminiscent of old Pac-Man, but it takes advantage of nearly 30 years of increasing computer power.
