This game is a direct sequel to Patapon. The tiny eyeball warriors return to Earthend in search of “IT.” To assist them in their ordeals, the player assumes the role of “The Mighty One” or “Mighty Patapon,” who leads them by playing the sacred Pata, Pon, Chaka, and Don drums to the beat of the game’s BGM. Different combinations result in other Patapon orders. The game is a series of levels accessed from Patapolis, most of which are repeatable but become more difficult each time. The Patapons now have the assistance of the Hero Patapon, who can be of any Patapon type available in the game if unlocked. The Hero has the same stats as other Patapons, but his attributes can vary depending on the kind of mask he is wearing. He also has various special abilities corresponding to the type of Patapon he is assigned. There are new minigames and features added to those from the first game and an evolution tree where every Patapon can change his appearance, level up, and gain different properties. Multiple players can now play together via the Patagate Shrine, defeating Giant Bosses and destroying enemy fortresses with their customized Hero Patapon. Treasures such as new masks for the Hero, Komupons (Hero Patapon NPC’s), materials, and equipment can be obtained. Patapon 2 was initially released in North America without a UMD disc and was only available for download from the Playstation Store.
