The superhero sequel Spider-Man 2 received its own PSP adaptation. In contrast to the console version’s open-world design, the PSP game is strictly linear. Spider-Man must progress through 19 levels, each with its challenges. He must fight thugs and robots, save a police car from falling off a bridge, activate the sprinkler system in a burning warehouse, transport civilians from a failed fusion experiment, and rescue hostages in a museum, among other things. Spidey can swing from buildings to get around, pull himself up to the ceiling, and crawl on walls. To defeat numerous enemies, he can employ a variety of kicks and punches that can be combined into combos. His webbing comes into play in various ways. For example, he can shoot it at enemies to temporarily knock them out. He must also use it to complete multiple objectives, such as repairing leaky pipes for the sprinkling system. Spidey earns Hero Points throughout the game, which can be spent after each level to unlock new moves and bonuses. Hero Points are awarded for completing a story, using combos, having a high level of health and webbing remaining, operating time, and discovering secret spider symbols. The game only loosely follows the film’s plot (in the stories concerning Doctor Octopus). Many other Spider-Man villains, such as Mysterio, the Rhino, the Shocker, and the Vulture, are featured and must be defeated. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, and JK Simmons reprise their roles in the story, which is told through pre-rendered and in-game cutscenes.
