Ys: The Ark of Napishtim

The event that kicks off the novel’s events occurs when a fleet of Roman ships launches an assault on Adol’s boat. As a result of being forced to sail into uncharted territory, they enter a severe storm. While Adol was attempting to save a fellow sailor, he was washed ashore by the vortex that encircles the Canaan Islands. The Canaan Islands are located in the middle of the vortex. The daughters of the chieftain of the neighboring Rehda village, Olha and Isha, find him. He is unconscious at the time of their discovery. The young women bring their father’s body back to their hometown and lay him to rest in the family home. Adol is awakened momentarily when he overhears them discussing him, but he immediately falls asleep because he is exhausted. His journey into the unknown then starts.
