Puzzle Bobble Pocket () is a Japanese PSP release from 2004 based on Taito’s 1986 tile-matching arcade puzzle video game Bubble BoBubbleIn North America, the game series is known as Bust-A-Move. The gameplay is straightforward: the player controls a catapult at the bottom of the play area, which blasts bubbles of varying colors. When three or more bubbles of the same color come into contact with each other, they are removed from the field. After a while, a descending ceiling or more bubbles introduced from the top push the existing bubbles into the play area. When the bubbles reach the bottom, the game is over. Explosive bubbles destroy bubbles they touch, bowling balls knock off all bubbles in their path, star bubbles remove all bubbles of the same color as the bubble they are touched by, and rainbow bubBubblehange color to the color of a bubble group that gets popped adjacent to them. Four game modes are available: single, endless, VS, and survival. The classic single-player puzzle game Single has 500 levels. Each game’s purpose is to clear the pre-set pattern of bubbles. Endless is an unwinnable variant in which new bubbles are always pushed in from the top and played for the highest score. VS is the competitive form, where popping more than the requisite three bubbles sends them over to the opponent’s field. Survival is a variation on the VS game in which the own play field is not refreshed after winning a round.
