Rainbow Islands Evolution is a PSP game in the Bubble Bobble series. In Japan, it is also known as New Rainbow Islands Hurdy Gurdy Daibouken. It’s an improved version of the arcade game Rainbow Islands. The two main characters, Bub and Bob, are up against an evil recording business that wants to contaminate the Rainbow Islands’ atmosphere by making incessant musical noise, wilting the flora, and altering the animals. Bub and Bob utilize a hurdy-gurdy (an archaic European musical instrument) as a weapon to produce rainbows in this game. The game uses the same vertical-scrolling technique as the original, but it grows to a third dimension due to platforms in the background that become accessible throughout the game. The game has received criticism for being overburdened with new features, particularly those that distinguish this version of the game from the original.
