Split/Second

Split/Second is a television show about cars, Destruction, and explosions, always looking for new contestants. They hire the player to be one of the eighth drivers and possibly the next champion for the twelve episodes of the new season. It is a racing game with fictitious names inspired by real-world vehicles. Instead of racing around the tracks and attempting to be the first to do so simply by driving better, everyone can access a power play bar. The three sections of the bar fill up by performing drifts, drafting (driving in the slipstream of another car), jumping, or avoiding an activated power play. While the first two are used to activate two level one power plays, filling up the third unlocks a level two power play. Aside from the standard races, the game includes several other game modes, such as Destruction, in which the player must race to the finish line as quickly as possible while every power play on the track is automatically triggered. In Air Strike, the player must avoid missiles fired by a helicopter flying ahead. Air Revenge takes this further by allowing the player to return those missiles to their original location. There are also Time Trial events, in which all power play is automatically triggered, and Elimination events, in which the last driver in the pack is eliminated from the race after a set number of time intervals. The game includes a split-screen mode for two players, online multiplayer for up to eight players, and three different game modes.
