TMNT is an action game for the PSP and Nintendo DS based on the 2007 animated film of the same name. The game’s plot is loosely based on the film’s story, in which the four Ninja Turtles have grown apart and must now reunite to combat a new threat to New York. Images and clips from the film are used to illustrate the story between levels (on the PSP only). The game is divided into 15 stages. In each, the player takes control of a different turtle. The game is primarily a platformer, with the turtles running and jumping across rooftops and other environments to reach the level’s end. Moving to a bright hot spot and pressing one of three buttons that launch a jump to the front, left, or right (relative to the screen), corresponding to the goal spot, is how jumping works. Jumps are completed automatically if the appropriate button is pressed. When there are downward slides, ropes to swing on, or walls to climb, a fourth button must be encouraged to charge the jump. Another turtle will occasionally appear on a level and must be caught up to within a specific time. If he succeeds, he propels his brother further along the story, earning him a Family Bond. This can be used in the game’s fight sequences, which include fights against various goons and boss battles. The turtles can use basic attacks, blocks, and more powerful moves, such as a swing attack and a decisive charging move. The Family Bonds are used to summon an additional turtle for additional attacks. The player is awarded medals for achieving goals when a level is completed. These include conducting the story quickly, collecting all four letters T-M-N-T, obtaining Family Bonds, and performing jump chains. If the hot spot jumps are performed quickly, chains are formed. Getting all gold medals in a level activates bonuses. Stories can be replayed to improve performance. The game also has a multiplayer component in which players race each other across a group to see who can reach the end first.
